What makes a KIPP education unique?
All KIPP Colorado schools share a core set of operating principles known as the Five Pillars. As our network continues to grow, we are constantly reflecting on the beliefs below to build and grow high-performing schools. KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy teachers, school leaders, and staff focus on:
A Belief in All Students
At KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy, our work is grounded in the core belief that all students can, and will, learn and achieve at the highest levels.
Academics & Character
Our students, teachers and parents make a commitment to academic success. Students navigate an academically rigorous, college preparatory curriculum and provides added learning time.
Character education is a core piece of our instructional approach. We believe that students should be held accountable for their choices, and that their choices have consequences—“Do good things, good things happen. Do bad things, bad things happen.” For this reason, conversations among and between KIPPsters, teachers, and parents are vital in helping students to develop character.
As a school, we take one to two months to learn about, explore, and emphasize a particular character strength. In addition, each grade level implements a character education plan throughout the year to develop these character strengths and to guide each student’s moral development. Character education is embedded in classroom lessons as well as weekly, quarterly, and annual traditions.
Climbing the Mountain To & Through College
Our ultimate goal is to see our students to and through college, and we commit to supporting our students through their time in college, and even beyond. Learn more about KIPP Through College.
Excellent Teachers & Leaders
Outstanding schools are built, led, and sustained by empowered leaders. Supported by a great leader, excellent teachers help students develop the character, knowledge, habits of mind, and skills needed to be successful in college and the world beyond. We believe in building a partnership with students' families as well as the communities in which our schools are located.
