Daniels Fund Pledges $750,000 to KIPP Colorado Schools

DENVER, CO – KIPP Colorado Schools announced this month that it has received a $750,000 commitment from the Daniels Fund. This gift will be made over the next three years and will support KIPP Colorado Schools’ growth from three schools to five. In 2015, KIPP Colorado will open its first elementary school and second high school. Both will be located in far northeast Denver. This donation brings the Daniels Fund’s total investment in KIPP Colorado Schools to over 1.5 million dollars.

“We are deeply grateful for the continued support and commitment of the Daniels Fund. This investment in KIPP Colorado Schools will allow us to serve more than 2,000 of Denver’s most underserved students in the next three years and ensure that our alumni are fully prepared to succeed in their journey to and through college,” said Kimberlee Sia, executive director of KIPP Colorado Schools. “This gift supports our long-term goal of expanding our programs to serve students in pre-K through twelfth grade in both Far Northeast and Southwest Denver to ensure that students are supported as early as possible.”

KIPP Colorado currently operates three schools serving nearly 1,200 students from low-income neighborhoods in southwest and far northeast Denver, as well as more than 300 alumni. Ninety-five percent of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Over the next five years, KIPP Colorado will double the number of schools it operates and will serve 2,655 Denver students in grades pre-K through 12, as well as support over 900 KIPP Colorado alumni in college and after they graduate

The Daniels Fund was established through the generous legacy of Bill Daniels, a Colorado-born business leader and entrepreneur. Throughout his life, he was devoted to helping the most vulnerable or disadvantaged community members achieve happier, healthier, and more productive lives. Before his death in 2000,

Bill transferred his $1 billion estate to form the assets of the Daniels Fund to continue his legacy of giving, making it one of the largest foundations in the Rocky Mountain region.
